What is the Gospel?
The Gospel is The Good News. And what is the Good News?
Because of the fall of Adam & Eve, sin entered the world. Because of this event, all human beings are born with a sin nature.
Romans 3:10-12 says that, ‘There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands, there is no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.’
That means that we are hopeless. It is not in our nature to do good or seek God. Our nature is to do evil and to turn away from God. And there is a penalty for that sinful nature. The first half of Romans 6:23 tells us that, ‘The wages of sin is death…’
So not only are we hopeless, we are destined for death. That is the payment for our sin.
But this is where the Good News enters in. The second half of Romans 6:23 says, ’…but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.’
That gift of God is Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son. Who is actually God Himself.
John 3:16 says. ‘For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.’
Jesus Christ Himself went to the cross on our behalf and took the penalty of death for our sins, so that we ourselves may not die, but have eternal life, by believing in Him.
Jesus the God-Man defeated death and conquered sin by His death and resurrection, so that we may live with Him for all eternity.
And that, my friends, is Good News!
